Les dones han sigut invisibilitzades durant el transcurs de la hist\u00f2ria i \u00e9s com\u00fa que la majoria de la societat no conegui les seves figures. Aix\u00f2, sens dubte, ha de canviar. Hem de trencar aquesta barrera que hi ha entre les professions que s\u00f3n percebudes com \u201cper a homes\u201d, ja que ni l\u2019enginyeria, ni qualsevol altra professi\u00f3 ha d\u2019estar seccionada per g\u00e8neres. En els seus estudis sobre la qualitat de l\u2019aigua de Massachusetts va crear el concepte d\u2019<strong>higiene ambiental<\/strong>, que \u00e9s la base de l\u2019ecologia moderna, amb m\u00e8todes que avui dia se segueixen utilitzant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Va dedicar m\u00e9s d\u2019una d\u00e8cada a lluitar perqu\u00e8 les dones poguessin estudiar carreres universit\u00e0ries. Primerament, el projecte estava liderat pel seu marit, un enginyer civil, per\u00f2 va patir una malaltia durant el projecte i va proposar a l\u2019Emily que lider\u00e9s el projecte. Va crear 110 invencions i va registrar m\u00e9s de 50 patents. Tots els seus coneixements els va adquirir de manera autodidacta. Es tracta d\u2019una fibra d\u2019alta resist\u00e8ncia, de fins a 5 vegades m\u00e9s resistent que l\u2019acer. Actualment, encara s\u2019utilitza en neum\u00e0tics radials, armilles antibales i cables de fibra \u00f2ptica. A m\u00e9s a m\u00e9s, va escriure una gran quantitat d\u2019articles cient\u00edfics premiats per la AIEE, un llibre de refer\u00e8ncia de l\u2019enginyeria de l\u2019energia. Va aconseguir 28 patents, 22 de les quals estaven lligades a les <strong>m\u00e0quines de cosir<\/strong>.
